Today involved starting dress #2, helping Duchess cut out the pieces for her vintage-style apron (she expressed an interest in learning to sew), making bread for church tonight, and taking everyone to this year's first Presanctified Liturgy. Thankfully the rain held off this evening, although I got drenched putting groceries in the trunk around midday.
Well, this wasn't a complete disaster because I learned a few things. However, the dress as it turned out is nearly unwearable. I will explain. First, this is the artist's conception of how it should look (yes, I know to ignore the idealized Barbie waist): You can see that it's meant to be fitted. This … Continue reading Vintage Vogue 9000: take 1
We just wrapped up Cheesefare yesterday and now the Great Fast has begun. I felt like Forgiveness Vespers was unusually well attended this year. Mittens fell asleep shortly after it began which meant I was actually able to stay inside for the whole service. Everyone has been enjoying watching the little puppies grow up week … Continue reading Wrapping up Cheesefare
Joann's is having a 50% off sale on a lot of their cotton and it was the perfect time to get dress fabrics. I'm making three dresses using the pattern above. This one belonged to her mother as a little girl. The pieces … Continue reading Grandmother’s Doll
Moppet and Mittens wore their pink smocked dresses for the archbishop’s arrival on Saturday. I tried to get photos of them since I had a few extra minutes but Mittens didn’t want to cooperate at first. Moppet was all too happy to model for the camera.
This was really my first color-work project and it was lots of fun! I started it while we were on vacation but had to get additional supplies before I could finish it. See the listing on Cozy House Curios for more details.
[updated with photos of Mittens wearing it at end] Last December I knit a sweater and hat for Mittens. The hat was precious and still fits (being stretchy). At the time I put the sweater on her I realized I hadn't left any room for growth. Darn it. I put it away at the end … Continue reading Lengthening a hand-knit sweater
