Doesn’t it feel like sometimes in our lives we’re just in suspension? We’re waiting for some outcome, some decision, some solution. In the meantime we shuffle through our tasks but our minds are focused on that one thing (or more, sigh).

It’s had to live in the moment when the moments are difficult and the “fix” is still up in the air, dependent on the actions of other humans. Yet God asks us to do that. “Be still and know that I am God.” [Ps. 46:10] “Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.” [Matt. 6:34] (<- I can only write this verse in the old KJV; it’s inseparable.)

We’re going through health difficulties with one of our children and so much of everything is a waiting game and a lot of uncertainty about the future. I would appreciate your prayers on that front.

Daily life continues, however, and as an adult you can’t just flop down to wait it out. Advent has begun which to me is a 40 day wait, very appropriate.

Imagine, if you will, traveling away from home during your last weeks of your first pregnancy, knowing the baby will be born soon, but not knowing exactly when. You know it’s crowded where you’re going and you don’t have family or friends to stay with. Most of us would be mildly panic-stricken. We are not told exactly what Mary was thinking during this journey, but we know that above all she trusted God.

All of us have to learn to trust, to know that somehow we will get through the storm with God’s help and mercy.
