Matushka Anna, I remember a long time ago you shared a website from which one could purchase yarn in bulk. I can’t find that link. Do you still use that site or do you have others? I have my eye on a lace shirt to knit for me, but the yarn from yarnspirations was going to be $50. I know good yarn is expensive, so I’m always on the lookout for a deal.
Hi! One of my favorites (having the best prices) is Smiley’s discount yarn (http://www.smileysyarns.com). The selection is a mix but changes often. It’s better to look it over occasionally, keeping an eye out for the things you need. Because the prices are so low it’s also a good chance to have fun and experiment. They have a $50 minimum order so it’s not something you can do on a lark, but if there’s a yarn or two that you use frequently it’s a good way to stock up (grabbing some fun things while you’re at it).
thanks! one more question – Smileys has so many types of yarn, but I’ve heard that some yarns are itchy, some of unpleasing against your fingers to work with, etc. Do you have a preferred brand?
The best way to see what you like is to go visit an honest-to-goodness yarn store. I did that a few years ago (first time I was near one) and they were tickled pink that it was my first time. They said, “touch everything!” 😊
There is also a thing on Ravelry I think (maybe it was somewhere else) that graded a ton of yarns on how soft they were. Let me look…
I hit reply too soon! If you’re looking for the best price in something specific, do a google search for that yarn using the “shop” option and sort the results by price. Also check Amazon (you might be able to save shipping with prime), and deals at craft stores (Hobby Lobby, etc.) They often have sales and both have online coupon codes. If you buy the yarn a little at a time you can use a coupon code each time.
love, love love!

Another one a friend swears by is Discontinued Brand Name Yarn (http://www.discontinuedbrandnameyarn.com/shop/)
