St. Innocent

Today is the commemoration of the glorification of St. Innocent. What a lovely patron my son has…

(Go here to read life of St. Innocent)

Troparion:
You evangelized the northern people of America and Asia,
Proclaiming the Gospel of Christ to the natives in their own tongues.
O holy hierarch Father Innocent,
Enlightener of Alaska and all America, whose ways were ordered by the Lord,
Pray to Him for the salvation of our souls in His Heavenly Kingdom!

Well, so Innocent and I don’t share a birthday. I didn’t get the birthday present I had wanted this year, but I am still blessed beyond measure. I’d write more but we’re off to Liturgy! More later.

Oh, and Joyous Feastday baby boy.

  1. May God grant you consolation today!

St. Innocent was one of the most amazing people of all time. If he were secular, people would compare his all-encompassing genius to someone like Leonardo da Vinci. He could do anything mechanical, could build anything from furniture to churches, learned numerous languages, invented written alphabets for a number of them, made the first scientific observations of Alaska, wrote the Indication of the Way into the Kingdom of Heaven, organized a missionary society, all while serving as a father, husband, missionary, priest, bishop and finally metropolitan of Moscow. He is a truly American saint, and someone whom even people who are indifferent to God could respect and admire.

Pretty much everyone knows about the wonderful life for children published by Conciliar Press, but this is a very good, thorough biography/life for mature readers, published by St. Vladimir's Seminary Press.
