Not many eight-year-old boys want
this for their birthday cake:
 |
August Southern Living: Mint Chocolate Chip Ice-Cream Cake |
Of course, it didn’t look nearly as good as the one in Southern Living…
 |
August Kitchen Reality: Mint Chocolate Chip Ice-Cream Disaster |
 |
…which at least tasted good! |
For one thing, I forgot to put the crushed chocolate mint cookies between the layers because I was trying to hurry before the ice cream melted during construction. Also, he didn’t want Andes mints, he wanted Hershey bar segments. The whipped cream turned out fine (I should have stopped beating a little sooner.) and the ganache was fine too, except that the directions did not include letting it cool slightly before putting it on top of ice cream. I figured it would be ok since the directions didn’t specify that, but it slid off the top and down the sides. Oh well. [Note to self: let it cool next time. Elementary physics here.]
More party pics to come.
